Why are the Aurora PAY AS YOU GO charges higher?

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO service charges can be higher than some other energy retailers' regulated charges due to maintenance and connection to the electricity system and providing Aurora PAY AS YOU GO infrastructure and administration.

How can I manage my electricity costs?

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meters offer Time of Use pricing so you can take advantage of different electricity rates at different times of the day. During these timeslots the respective rate will apply to the use of all your appliances.

Power use is most expensive during the morning and less expensive later in the evening, so taking advantage of the cheaper rates by running your washing machine, dryer or dishwasher overnight is a good way to manage what you are spending on electricity.

Rates are cheaper in winter and Aurora has Standard (uncontrolled load) and OffPeak (controlled load) rates, as well as concession rates, based on the Customer Concession Scheme for Energy initiative of the SA State Government.

Can you save money using Aurora PAY AS YOU GO?

Everyone has different electricity needs, so saving money depends on you and what you need. However, as a guide, you are likely to save money if you use most of your power during the evening. Most people use electric heating in the winter evening period and air conditioning on summer evenings; and if you shift your pattern of use to include running washing machines, dishwashers and dryers during cheaper timeslots you may save money.

How do I monitor my power use?

The display on your meter will always show the value of the credit (or debt) that is in the meter.

The value is affected by:

  • The amount of credit your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Smart Card ‘transfers’ to the meter
  • The amount of electricity you use
  • Daily fixed charges
