Why should I change from my current service?

When you install an Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter in your home, you will never receive another power bill again!

That means no more surprises and more control over your budget. Your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter lets you see how much electricity you are using, how much it costs, and will help you take advantage of cheaper electricity time slots throughout the day. If you would like to pull the plug on power bills forever and take control over your energy consumption then this is a great option for you.

Is the meter hard to use?

The Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter is very user-friendly and simple to operate. When you sign up for Aurora PAY AS YOU GO, we install a prepaid electricity meter and give you a special Smart Card. Your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter allows you to purchase 'electricity credits' which are placed onto a your Smart Card. You can charge your card at your nearest Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agent with any amount up to $200. You then transfer the credit onto your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter by inserting the Smart Card into the slot on the meter. Your meter will tell you what credit you have, what your daily and hourly power use is, the various rates that apply, and will also alert you when you are low on credit. You receive no more bills in the post, and you control when and how much you pay.

How do I charge my meter?

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meters are based on Smart Card technology. Once you collect your card, sign it immediately (to ensure your security if your card is lost or stolen, your Smart Card will only work on your meter). Your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO card is 'charged' with electricity credits that you purchase in any amount up to $200 by taking the card to an Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agent.*

*Please note: Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agents prefer cash transactions and are not obliged to accept cheques, EFTPOS or credit cards.

When you slip the card in your meter, the credits are transferred and you have effectively prepaid your energy usage. You can recharge your card by purchasing more credit when it suits you best.

Is there anyone who can't sign up for Aurora PAY AS YOU GO?

For safety reasons, Aurora PAY AS YOU GO cannot be connected to residences that have any medical life support systems that run on mains power.

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO can only be connected to a single-phase power supply (most residences run on single-phase power but if you are unsure, call a licensed electrical contractor).

You must be able to safely access your own meter box in order to insert your Smart Card and press the buttons on your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter.

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO is for residential customers only.

How much does it cost?

There is a one-off installation fee of $55 to have your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter installed. After that, you determine how much you spend with Aurora PAY AS YOU GO.

Time of Use pricing means that you can take advantage of different rates at different times of the day. The less power you use in the higher rate times, the more you potentially save. For example, if you run your washing machine or dryer in the evening or at night, you will save money during this less expensive time of use. Even simple things like doing your ironing in the evening may save you money.

What if I don't like it?

We're so sure you'll love the benefits of Aurora PAY AS YOU GO that we haved backed it with a satisfaction guarantee. If you sign up for Aurora PAY AS YOU GO and are not completely satisfied within three months, Aurora will remove your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter free of charge*.

* Please note if you choose this option it will be your responsibility to choose another electricity retailer and pay any costs incurred to enter into a new contract.

You can also revert to standard metering free of charge within 28 days of a rate increase. All you need to do is contact Aurora and we will assist you.

How do I sign up?

Signing up is easy. You can choose to fill in our online application form, or call the Aurora Customer Service Centre on 1300 10 20 10, or pick up an application form from your nearest Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agent fill it in and post it back to us.
