After the initial set-up costs for Aurora PAY AS YOU GO, you can take control of your household budget by familiarising yourself with the rates and charges and monitoring your power use.

You can take advantage of different electricity rates at different times of the day. The less power you use in the higher rate times, the more potential to save.

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter

When you sign up for Aurora PAY AS YOU GO, a prepayment electricity meter will be installed at your home to replace the standard meter for a one-off installation fee of $50 (excl. GST). If you change your mind about the benefits of Aurora PAY AS YOU GO within three months, we will remove your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter free of charge*.

* Please note if you choose this option it will be your responsibility to choose another electricity retailer and pay any costs incurred to enter into a new contract.

If you move into a residence that already has an Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter installed, a one-off establishment fee of $22.70 (excl. GST) will be charged. This fee is paid when you pick up your card from your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agent.

Aurora Smart Card

Once you have received your Aurora Smart Card, sign it immediately. You can then purchase up to $200 of credit by taking the card to an Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agent* where it will be "recharged" at an electronic terminal.

*Please note that Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agents prefer cash transactions and are not obliged to accept cheques, EFTPOS or credit cards.

Daily charges

Daily fixed charges are debited against your meter every day, regardless of whether or not you are using electricity. These charges are outlined in the table below, or for more information phone one of our friendly customer service representatives on 1300 10 20 10.

Rates and charges - South Australia

Rates charged for electricity change depending on the time of year and time of use during the day.

Peak summer rates apply from January to March. Winter rates apply for the rest of the year.

Below is a full list of the rates for each timeslot and time of year. You can also get a copy of the annual rates and charges from your Aurora PAY AS YOU GO Recharge Agent or by phoning 1300 10 20 10.

The Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter also displays the rate of the current timeslot. See the table below for a list of these rates.

Note: The rates below are effective from 1 July 2008 and exclude GST.

Fees (excluding GST)
Installation fee: ONE-OFF fee of $50.
Meter removal fee: $50 is incurred if you request to go back to normal metering after three months of installation.
Smart Card replacement fee: $18.20 (if Smart Card is lost or stolen).
Additional Smart Card fee: $18.20 (maximum Smart Cards per meter is two).
Moving in/moving out fee: This $22.70 fee only applies if you are moving in or out of a residence that already has Aurora PAY AS YOU GO installed.

Time of Use pricing

Time of Use pricing means that you can take advantage of different electricity rates at different times of the day. The less power you use in the higher rate times, the more you can save, and the table above outlines these rates.

Aurora PAY AS YOU GO offers two types of pricing sets depending on your current situation: Standard (uncontrolled load) and OffPeak (controlled load).

There are also concession rates (see table above), based on the Customer Concession Scheme for Energy initiative of the SA State Government.

The Aurora Customer Service Centre operates during standard business hours on Monday to Friday, and on Saturday mornings.
