About the Technology
Aurora PAY AS YOU GO technology comes in two parts: a meter and a Smart Card.
The pre–paid electricity meter is mounted next to your meter in the power box at your home. This is where you transfer your electricity credits and monitor your power use. It displays what credit you have left and which electricity rate you are on, based on the time of year and time of use during the day.
There are two types of meters used in Tasmania: the Siemens PAY AS YOU GO Meter and the ACTARIS Talexus PayGuard. These meters work slightly differently but the service remains the same.
The Aurora PAY AS YOU GO meter is recharged using Smart Card technology.
The Smart Card is secure and will only work on your meter. You use it to purchase prepaid electricity at a registered Recharge Agent where it will be 'charged up' at an electronic terminal. Then you simply bring it home, slip the Smart Card into your meter and the credits are transferred.
